In the recent months, Facebook has begun to allow outside software developers to create applications for Facebook. For example: Microsoft allows anyone to develop software for Windows. Third-party developers don't have to get any formal approval from Facebook (or pay Facebook anything, ever) to develop and run applications.
To date, about 4,000 distinct applications have been developed for Facebook by many many people around the globe. It's fair to say that there is a lot of "hype" floating around, and you know what comes with hype? Thats right! Conventions!!!
There will be "convention" sponsored by Facebook next Tuesday at SMU (Umphry-Lee Ballroom // 9:45am-4:30pm) called a Facebook Developers Garage.
These Garages are being held all over the globe (see: link), and this one will feature Dave Morin, Senior Platform Manager of Facebook, as a one of the speakers.
Momo will be featured in a "Lightning Round" where selected companies will demo their new Facebook applications. The purpose of our application is to prove the concept behind a technology that we hope will allow us to attack social problems with business solutions in a way that has never before been possible. I'll be writing a post on this later.
When I know the exact time of my presentation I will let you all know, and of course I will post a video of it here on the blog.
Here's the event page. It should be free for SMU faculty and staff.
